Research Associate in Robotics and Mechatronics

Job description

We are looking for expertise in robotics and mechatronics to change composite manufacturing. Our aim is to reduce the cost of composites both environmentally and economically, while fashioning an entirely new bespoke technology. We are not looking for composites experience but robotics and mechatronics, control and machine learning experience. We seek to grow our research with your help as a partnership. We can teach you composites, what can you teach us?

You will work in a small team, in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, with an authority on polymer surface chemistry and a PhD student, to craft a novel robotic composite manufacturing technology that is truly scalable from small desktop items to entire buildings. Can you to help turn this from an idea on paper to a working demonstrator?

You will have a PhD in mechatronics, robotics or be close to completion (or have meaningful, equivalent experience). The role will involve the planning and undertaking research; hardware development; building the prototype desktop system; integrating control and robotic systems. The work will be diverse with the opportunity of working with a wide range of engineers and scientists in this field as well as composite and polymer authorities both on the main campus and at the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC).
