Staff Nurse, Paediatric Critical Care

Job description

Exciting opportunities for Band 5 nurses have arisen for Adult Nurses to work within our Paediatric Critical CarePCC department at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital RMCH. The PCC department at the RMCH may be what you are looking for if you are considering a change in career.

We are looking for Band 5 nurses both Adult &Paediatric nurseseither with or without PCC experience who want to join an expert team, delivering high standards of nursing care, and will work as part a high functioning nursing team dedicated to improving the service the department offers and will participate with and support future developments.

Our level three unit currently consists of 15 Paediatric Intensive Care beds and 12 Paediatric High Dependency beds. We are preparing to increase the number of Paediatric Critical Care beds. We are proud to deliver a high standard of care to critically ill children and their families. Our key focus is to provide high quality, patient focused care and we hold the trust's 'Gold Accreditation'status. We are also proud to have been proactive in presenting nationally and internationally, celebrating our successes and sharing learning. You will deliver direct patient care across the Paediatric ICU and Paediatric HDU areas. There will be opportunities to develop as a Sphere/Shift Leader. We have an established Education Team who support and encourage innovation and personal development across all nursing bands. The department has a Foundation course in Paediatric Critical Care, a Care of the High Dependent Child course and the Advanced Care
of the Critically Ill Child course incorporating Collaborative Weaning from the Mechanical Ventilator.

Further Information on our department

The Paediatric Critical Care CSU is a Lead Centre in the North West and has Trauma Centre Status. We are one of the largest general Paediatric Critical Care Units in the country with the North West and North Wales Transfer Service. NWTS. The CSU is a state of the art facility, offering quality care to children from 0 to 16 years with a wide range of conditions and illnesses. The majority of our patients require emergency care which provides a challenging and dynamic working environment. Patients present with a wide variety of conditions such as respiratory illnesses, thermal injuries, trauma, metabolic disorders, and we are the lead centre for children and young people requiring spinal surgery, bladder exstrophy repair, cleft lip and palate repair, Congenital Hyper-insulinaemia management. We also provide care to those children/young people who require management from neurosurgical, oncology, orthopaedic, renal and haematology teams.

Our Commitments to Professional Development

There is a clear commitment to continuing education and staff development to enable all members of the team to fulfil their role and deliver a high standard of care to patients and their families. The Paediatric Critical Care CSU has a robust preceptorship and education programme, including competency based orientation and staff development documents that structure and record professional development, and a suite of modules and courses, quality assured by the Paediatric Intensive Care Society. All staff have clearly identified mentors and appraisal reviewers. The Paediatric Critical Care CSU offer a diverse range of learning experiences including inter-professional teaching and high fidelity simulation. Nurse education is delivered and evaluated by a team of Education and Development Practitioners and Multi-Disciplinary Team members.

Future Training Opportunities

A personal development plan will be agreed and reviewed annually at appraisal with the Line Manager. The Trust has an education centre and excellent Trust library facilities. Staff have access to ‘in house’ development opportunities including Conflict Resolution, Human Factors, Compassionate Governance, Advanced Communication, and Management &Leadership courses. We work closely with both Salford and Manchester Universities, accessing courses of study as appropriate. There is a responsibility to network with Educators Trust-wide and nationally.You must be fully committedto your own education and development to join our enthusiastic Paediatric Critical Care team.
